Recently, we did some remodeling work to our kitchen. Some extra counter space was needed and an extra cupboard. Well, you just don’t stop there; you might as well put on a new counter top too. After looking at a number of mind-numbing options, Sandi (my precious wife) decided what we wanted. I was just glad that the process is progressing. Oh, I forgot to mention that we wanted to replace all the doors and drawer covers too, with a new sink and faucet.
We were assured by the counter top people that the installed cabinets could handle the load (old counter-top is traditional Formica, new counter-top is quartz!). So yeah, everything is going smooth, except for a slight delay in the installation; which meant a few extra days of eating out, but hey, fewer dishes to do.
The day before installation, the old counter- top was removed. Things looked okay if you didn’t look too closely. But on further inspection, the chipboard back and sides show signs of the 20 years of age. The wise thing would have been to replace all the base cabinets, but that would have put us way over budget. And installation of the new counter-top was less than 24 hours away.
The main thing; the support was solid. The wall mounts were solid. With a little Elmer’s carpenter glue and some corner supports, things could be patched up. Whose going to look that close on the inside after all is done? It’s what’s on the outside that is seen and touched that count, right?
Well, maybe it’s that way for kitchens, houses and such, but for God’s creation, He knows our insides better than we do. We can make our outward appearance look nice and put on a glowing smile and still be miserable on the inside. You have to remember that Jesus was a carpenter; he knows that there is more to us than just an outward appearance.
God knows how “flakey” we might be on the inside, He’s still willing to lift us up when we say “I can’t take it any longer. I can’t do it without You Lord. I’m sorry for being such a disappointment.” God will take us just as we are, but he wants us to have the fullness of life and become like Jesus. His desire for all man-kind is ~“I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their (his) toil—this is the gift of God.”
It’s amazing what a little glue and support here and there can do. When is the last time you asked your carpenter (Jesus) to inspect your cabinets?
Good stuff, Rocky.
