As I start preparing for the spring events; praying, making lists and talking with other people. I'm perplexed about possible candidates from my church.
There are several that are already "Emmaus" type people, and haven't attended the weekend event. My pastor, who couldn't envision taking a whole 3 days out of his schedule is always teaching and preaching on one of the weekend talks. Sandi and I will be sitting and listening; one of us will nudge the other and whisper "Changing our World" or "Growth through Study." And I will try to give that feedback to our pastor. "Pastor Jerry, you gave the core message of one of the talks on the weekend today in your sermon. Are you sure you haven't attended an Emmaus weekend?"
The pastor isn't the only one. Just last week our Children's director gave the devotion for the lighting of the Advent wreath. She talked about changing our world, our country, our state, our home town and our household. But the key to her devotion was starting with yourself! Then everything else will fall in to place. I gave her feedback later too. And she too is a very busy lady, not wanting to take 3 days out of her schedule. She has work to do for God.
So my situation is, should the non-Emmaus-Emmaus people still be pursued for attending the weekend? And if they did go, would they be too distracted at their own church? Would they try to get something done on a break?
I'm blessed to be in a church of non-Emmaus-Emmaus people. They hug, they pray, they know the message of God's love. They are a blessing to the unblessed each day and every Sunday. What a wonderful predicament!

What does God say about it? :)
ReplyDeleteTo me, God says "I have other sheep..." and the manual I gave you says workers should not sponsor pilgrims.
