Women's Walk #78

As I reflect back on the Women’s Spring Walk of 2010 (as Co-Auxiliary Director) I think to myself; What was I so worried about?; What were we trying to accomplish?; and What went right?

Starting from the last to the first – Everything that mattered went right. The Holy Spirit gave me a peace that transcended yoga or medication (legal or illegal). This was a direct result of having the right people in the right place at the right time. Believe it or not I had a few people that were signed up to help the Auxiliary Team that didn’t show up! But God provided us replacements! Out of the clear blue, we had people come and say, “We’re here for our pilgrim and is there anything we can do to help? And, oh by the way, is there a place we could sleep tonight?” So for the entire weekend, I don’t believe we were short of good helpers.

What were we trying to accomplish? All the duties and roles to support the pilgrims of April 2010 journey on the road to Emmaus. We have a recipe – the schedule with all the ingredients, time slots and assigned people to pull this off, what some might look at as a, mountainous task. And it is! But all we have to do is follow the recipe. And we did – for the most part.

I might have been upset from time to time when it appeared someone wanted to add or delete ingredients to our “angel food”. But overall, we blocked what was unnecessary and left what some might consider “local flavoring.”

The success of a weekend is dependent on everyone. There is neither top nor bottom, just different roles; servants willing to carry out their responsibilities to the best of their abilities with the gifts that God have given them. And on this weekend, that happened, the Body of Christ giving of their time and talents.

Now the part that caused me to ponder in the first place? 1) Not having very many people show up for the walk-through meeting before the walk. 2) Not knowing if the late helpers paid for any meals they ate, (If a walk goes over budget on a weekend, this is usually where it is). 3) The “No-Shows.” When we depend on people and we don’t even get a call, I wondered if I dropped the ball about instructions I should have given.

I feel so blessed by the fact that First Baptist Church of South Haven was blessed too. And the cherry on top of this wonderful delight? New friends I made that I didn’t know before. Thank you Kalamazoo Area Emmaus Community – we were blessed to be a blessing!

  1. From the looks on the pilgrims faces at the candlelight service, I would say it was, indeed, a great weekend for them. Thank you, Rocky, for inviting me to play even a very small roll in it.
