I am not a fan of blind adherence to rules. After all, blind adherence is just that - blind. (That may be one of the reasons I have not been more successful in my career than I have been!)
At the men's walk, I was of the opinion, initially, that the walk should have been canceled due to the low number of pilgrims. From what I saw of the walk and some of the impact it had on some of the pilgrims, I am exceedingly glad it was not. I too believe God chose those who were there for His reasons, and He permitted the walk to continue.
Yes, we should stay as close to the set of rules as we can, but.........
I am also glad that some of the great Christian men I know can disagree on some things, remain great Christian men, and rely on God for guidance.
Peace to all.
And Praise God that we can discuss like this within God and remain brothers. I know of few disciples more faithful than Rocky, and I value his thoughtful, prayerful words.
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast with what passes for discussion on talk radio, news forums, and call-in shows offered by the "world". I weep and pray for them. :)

One of the most frustrating things as parenting that I learned was trying to answer all the "Why?" questions from our first born when she was two. You can easily expand a five minute task to an hour by giving an explaination to each "why?" asked. Then comes the point in your tolerant limits when you just say "Because I'm the father and I said so. Now lets get moving." So much for "I'm going to raise my children better than when I was raised."
ReplyDeleteYes, there are reasons to not blindly follow the rules. But if we trust the people who trusted the Lord in developing the format and structure of "The Walk to Emmaus" then we might want to "follow the recipe" instead of trying to figure it out on our own to see if we can make it work better or skipping things we don't think are necessary. When Jesus told his disciples that we are to "be as children," I believe that He meant that we are to trust and obey.
The weekend was not wasted on those that attended, both pilgrims and community. I guess what "I'm" looking for is heaven on earth. I've been on weekends where there have been 30+ pilgrims (men). The interaction is awesome. I've been on walks with 11, and they were blessed also. But there is something to be said for more interaction, more life experiences to share, more brotherhood to have.
God is far greater than what we can even come close to imagine ~ the mustard seed to a big healthy plant. I just want us to be washed in the total love of God, nothing less.

So do I.
